Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday wrote to Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, seeking her intervention in securing the matter pertaining to 24-year-old Vishal Jood who is lodged in a prison in Australia.
Vishal Jood, 24 years old Indian national appeared in court after he was arrested over his involvement in reported hate attacks on Sikhs at Harris Park in Sydney’s West. He was living on an expired visa in Australia.
He has been charged with “three counts of affray (group fighting in a public place that disturbs the peace), three counts of armed with intent commit an indictable offense, two counts of destroying or damage property » $5000 & «=$15,000 (DV), and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s)”, as per the police.
Urging Lekhi’s intervention “to secure justice for a son of Haryana”, Khattar said that he has received representations from various quarters including Jood’s family, according to a state government release.
They have conveyed to him that “Jood got into a tussle with a group that was raising anti-Indian slogans and even desecrating the Indian national flag and these groups have subsequently framed him on false charges”, Khattar said.Follow us:
